Surrogates atau robot pengganti,

mengambil alih fungsi manusia dalam menjalankan kegiatannya sehari-hari.

Mereka menggantikan kita bekerja, bergerak, dan kita hanya perlu tidur diam sambil menggunakan alat seperti komputer untuk menghubungkan dengan robot tersebut.

Robot tersebut bisa berwujud sama sekali berbeda dengan yang diri kita aslinya.

Bruce Willis berperan sebagai Tom Greer (agen FBI) yang menemui kasus ini.

Bahwa operator robot pengganti (manusia yang menggunakan robot pengganti) bisa ikut terbunuh lewat robot penggantinya.

Disini akhirnya ia sadar bahwa robot pengganti tetap bukanlah manusia sesungguhnya.
